Chris Purr’s B20 Honda Civic EK4 – Banzai Magazine Featured

August 6, 2012

Being a firm believer in buying quality parts, and living by the motto “buy cheap, buy twice” twinned with the patience to search for the dream items, that Chris knew he could rely on for performance and live up to their high end reputation, he was willing to make the sacrifice of time and money to obtain exactly what he wanted.

front angle

That desire of wanting the next step up, is natural. Chris used to own a 1.4 EJ9 Civic which he states “it was nothing special” simply being lowered on some springs with Rota wheels and not in much of a position to progress much further due to touring with his band, like anything, if you are good enough and put effort into making success happen, it will come. It fortunately did for Chris and his band, getting offered a record deal and with a record deal comes money.

rega

front

Initially considering a B-swap for his current car, this idea came to a close after many deliberations and the decision to search for a VTI with the B-series engines fitted from the factory ideally being the perfect base for the start of a project.

ek4

Finding a worthy replacement took a few months to surface for Chris. When browsing the archives on Gumtree, an advert that had he had been active for over a month had exactly what he was looking for, but seeing how long the advert had been their he decided not to pass up the opportunity. Deciding to make the phone call and being received with positive answers that the car was still available a viewing was arranged, and ultimately a car was purchased.

front again

The car now in Chris’s possession he set about tidying the car up slightly by de-badging the rear and fitting the JDM sized plates. Having the previous Civics modifications still in his possession, he proceeded to put the Rota wheels on to the new civic, along with the lowering springs and an SRS cat back exhaust system. Also replacing the standard “battered” headlights, with some genuine EK9 rear clusters.

rear 1

Very early into the build Chris knew he wanted to keep this car as simple as he could on the outside whilst making it as track focused chassis and power wise possible. Building on his inspiration of other clean Honda’s he had seen over the years, his main inspiration came from a K20’d EG built by American tuners TopSetup which featured in the American Touge series.

Ek4 rear quater

The only exterior modifications at this point in the cars history that Chris really was focusing on was sourcing a SIR lip & grill for the EK, keeping with the OEM exterior theme that he really was building on and managed to find both items brand new. After the car saw a brief spell at a body shop for a touch up on the front bumper and wing, the front end of the car was how Chris had pictured it.

warehouse 1

By the end of 2009 Chris had placed even more orders for modifications that would drastically change the handling on the car. B-C coilovers are built with a large 53mm diameter damper body, which increases the capacity allowing larger volumes of oil inside the body, reducing the temperature and significantly increasing the damper performance.

seat

Also at this stage of Chris’s build he purchased some chassis based modifications such as up rated lower control arms, Beaks bar and a B-C pillar brace, all chassis strengthening modifications to make the car more rigid.

asr

Getting sick of the noisy back box that he had on the EK4 from his previous Civic, Chris purged through some of his older back catalogue of Honda parts that he has stored away in the back of the garage and fitted his old super sprint back box as a part time unit whilst he set his targets on the hard to get hold of in the second hand market, a Spoon Street exhaust. Never letting his eye off the ball Chris managed to source the back box he was after and picking up a set of EK9 cams at the same time to up the power of the B16 that was currently in his car.

wheel

The next modification that Chris managed to get his hands on, is not only one of his rarest parts on the car, but one that he had longed for way before this Civic had even existed. The Desmond Regamaster is one of the most sought after set of wheels in the Honda world, simple and elegant whilst remaining purposeful and very resistant to wear and age, they are on their way to being a collector’s item. Many people that do own them (Myself included) even after the car they had them on may have been sold, the wheels will not be, just in case one day the chance to put them on another car comes along. They are hard to source, hard to get hold of and once a set does come up for sale, they do not stick around for long, no matter what the price tag. Chris had almost given up on ever owning a set, but knowing that he would never fully be satisfied by the Rota slipstreams (Regamaster Replica’s) that he had been running on his Civics past and present, he was always prepared to splash out on his dream wheels. He got his chance, when by a complete stroke of luck one of his friends who is in the car trade took an import MX5 in as a part exchange. The MX5 had a set of staggered Regamasters in near mint condition. Word spread fast about the wheels in Chris’s local town amongst the local Honda crowd and once this had got to Chris, he was on the phone working out a deal faster than his Honda could hit Vtec.

spoiler

The first half of 2010, Chris really set his sights finding rarer more desirable parts, it wasn’t to long before he found his first of the year, a Godspeed rear X-Brace, at the time also being the only one in the country, Chris had to have it. After a the initial “not so great” first impressions and Chris managed to wrap his head around fitting it, the interior went on a diet, along with some not so usual ultra old school black and grey Recaro’s, similar to those in the old Ford RS series. These seats not only looking vastly different to the standard EK4 seats, but being more comfortable and having a better seated position and hold for the driver, Chris saw these as a no brainer. After fitting the “new” but “old” Recaro’s, the rear of the civic was stripped back to the very bone to save a few KG’s and given a fresh coat of satin black to tidy it up after removal of the sound deadening.

seat

Chris opted for an expensive, yet smaller modification next; To hold his beloved Regamasters to his EK4 he purchased some Volk Formula Wheel nuts, which are specially designed with a floating head to prevent scratches to the wheels and are made from a very high quality chrome manadium. Around the same time, a set of ultra rare Cusco side bars popped up for sale, Chris purchased these to finish of the interior strenghtening of the civic.

seat interior

The urge to have more power lingered with Chris, although the B16 was providing him enough to enjoy the car, he was finding that he needed something more. A Skunk 2 Inlet manifold, an SRS 421 exhaust manifold and a de back were purchased to complete the full exhaust system to really open up the B16’s air flow in attempts at extracting as much power as possible from the little 1.6.

engine

Finishing off the aethstetic parts of the car with a genuine Spoon spoiler which Chris managed to find online very much completed, and the interior of the car being touched off with a hand made weighted gear knob custom made for him by Honda Culture founder “Darkside” and a Nardi Steering wheel that Chris had owned for a while now finally fitted, the main focus for him was now performance. The rear LCA’s were replaced by poly bushed units and ASR brace with matching roll bar added to the chassis to stiffen up the rear of the car.

front

Power was next on Chris’s agenda, with a Civic chassis, owners have so much choice from swaps to conversions. Chris had contemplated a turbo conversion on the current B16, also considered the infamous, yet costly K20 swap. Being a lover of naturally aspirated engines, he set to work to find what the most cost effective pound for pound swap would be for his Civic. After long evenings researching swaps online, B20 swap specialists DNR were his answer. The B20’s are the 2.0 block from the CRV 4×4, with huge previously unknown tuning capabilities and an impulsive 120mile trip to DNR to discuss the possibilities for the car, Chris’s mind was made up and he instantly started sourcing parts for the swap. Some of the parts Chris is really proud of, including the AEM cold air intake, the blow 68mm throttle body and genuine Hy-tech exhaust manifold to really get the most gains from the B20.

side warehouse

On receiving the frankenstein’d Civic back from DNR, the car was more exciting than Chris had ever expected, with the perfect balance of power and torque from the engine. All that was needed for the car to produce even better results was bigger injectors from the Accord Type R, Buddy Club adjustable Cam pulleys, fuel pressure regulator and a custom fabricated 3″ exhaust system, with the back box being based on a J’s down turned tip made by Solid Fabrications. Chris also purchased some Billet engine mounts, to stop the engine movement under acceleration. With all the additional power now in Chris’s hands, he decided the next move for strengthening and safety would be a full roll cage.

chris

When purchasing the cage he was informed it was a “Dash Dodger” meaning no cutting of the dash would take place to get it to fit. This however was not the case when Chris had gotten around to fitting it and this put a damper on his spirits but having an enthusiastic and a very willing to help Father on his case there was no way Chris was going to get the chance to shift it. So the father son duo set about cutting the car to fit the dash. Once it was in, he was not happy with the overall fitment. To get the cage to fit higher, a local business made up some metal turrets for the cage to sit on having it at the height he wanted. The cage saga was not finished though. Once again Chris changed his mind and decided to just go all out and have the cage fully welded into the car, as he states “No Guts, No Glory”. As with all full cages, Chris could no longer fit the standard seat belts in his car. He opted for a Takata Harness, which are FIA regulated and of the highest quality. Along with this, Chris managed to pair this up with another item he had been after for a long time in the form of a Bride low max glitter back fixed bucket seat which he now knows it as “The Throne Of Dreams”.

inteiror 1

Chris has had to be creative with a few of his modifications, digging into his own pocket to research, test and create some unique features for the Civic. After not being happy with the generic intake feeds that he had found which he could purchase off the shelf, he molded his own rectangle one for his front bumper. The other major one, is the sunroof delete. “Delete-Project” came about when he really wanted to remove his sunroof to free up the weight that it was keeping on the car. No one was making sunroof deletes which you could simply purchase off the shelf without having to bolt it in, or having a very messy appearance. Chris has designed one that it fits perfectly with molding which make it look factory OEM with incredible weight reductions, these are soon to be available from himself. A must have for all Civic enthusiasts that are trying to shed that last few pounds without hitting the gym.

rear

Chris and the car are not done yet. He has purchased up super tech valve train parts, Buddy club spec 4 cams and RS machine pistons. All the work will be being carried out once again with DNR. Then next on his list is even more weight saving for the Civic. His goal to making this the ultimate B20 machine is coming together perfectly, sticking to his guns and avoiding the cheap knock off parts that can make or break a build. The Civic has taken a persona of its own and with his own unique touches showing that he will not let anything stand in his way of perfection. The car is sure to be turning a lot of heads, and passing a lot of higher power cars on the track in the near future.

Andrew Cheah’s Nissan GTR

July 23, 2012

GTR 1

Back when I hooked up with NightKids a little while ago now, thanks to Kai Foo’s planning he managed to get one of his friends Andrew to come down from Northampton with his unbelievable GTR. Andrew is going to get back to me at some point with the history of his build, but because of this week & how the site will be going down for a little while I thought I’d give you guys a Monday morning post of the Photo’s from the Nightkids shoot of his GTR, just untill I can update it with the builds history.

So as of Wednesday, I will be on Holiday, im sure I will be able to get on wifi so any parts enquiries, please still send them to adam@6two1.com & I will get back to you as soon as I can. It may not be next day as which is what I aim to hit here in England, but that is only due to time restrictions on wifi & how fast I may be able to get it etc.

Once I am back, hoping all goes to plan, Daryl from Rubberduckhosting should have the new site online & shop ready for me to start uploading some products into, from stickers, T-shirts to some of the more popular parts that I can get my hands on, then over the coming months I will be putting everything on there as I get the time too!

So for now, please enjoy the images of Andrew’s GTR. I will never forget the drive around London following it & how many heads it turned, pictures it got & the attention it took away from London’s landmarks itself as we were passing! Cannot wait for a passneger ride in it!! …

Total Honda Magazine Feature: Chris Blackman’s JDM Honda CRX SiR

July 19, 2012

Well I gave you the option via Twitter to what feature you wanted to see next & the CRX won! the GTR will be featured very soon though but it was cool to be a bit more interactive with the readers! If you have a twitter get involved in the next one ! @6TWO1

Total Honda Magazine came to me and asked if I could get a feature ready of a CRX. Of course I could & I knew exactly the car to do it on. I met Chris for the first time at a Honda open day on the day I picked up my first DC5. We’ve kept in contact since through emails & car meets and I was happy I could finally give this car the coverage it really deserves. Below, is the exact article I sent to Total Honda Magazine before their editor does their tidying up work so word for word its exactly how I wrote it. Hope you enjoy! I have also included a desktop sized background of one of the pictures. Click the link after the spec list.

rear zoom

When Chris Blackman’s DC5 came back from the body shop, from being side swiped by a rouge, sliding motorcyclist, he felt the love was lost with his treasured Integra and it was time to move on. With a passion for the CRX that had began before Chris had even had his driving licence, he was always toying with the idea of owning one, this time he knew it was time to find himself his lusted after model.

Crx roof

It took four car’s before Chris found a CRX SiR that he was happy to settle with. Unfortunately with purchasing such an old car, normally wanted by younger generations of owners, a good example is hard to find, so keeping you’re eyes open and finding one that needs as little work as possible is the safest bet. Four Cars later and Chris was happy to drive away in his newly acquired JDM Crx SiR.

crx front angle

rear angle

Chris’s Crx SiR is the top of the range model with the full panoramic glass roof, a very rare and sought after model, even with the glass roof, the Crx is lighter than one with a sunroof. 160bhp n/a from the 1.6 means it is no slouch either.

Ownership of an older Jdm Honda models isn’t always the most straight forward of relationships. After only owning the car a short amount of time, the car had to face its first torrential rain storm in Chris’s ownership. Upon his drive to work the next day he noticed a sloshing noise coming from the boot of the car, after a few months of owning the car and having it in pieces trying to work out what the problem is whilst putting up with the issue Chris finally managed to work it out. One of the roof seams was failing and with a little sealant the problem was soon sorted and the rear interior of the car was put back in giving the car a much more refined drive. Whilst Chris was fitting the interior back together he replaced the faulty boot struts saving himself from near decapitation every time he entered the boot.

front from a way away

rear away

Taking the car down to the TGM Sport garage (where his DC5 had been looked after through out his ownership) for a full service & a check over of the car bought about some bad news. Seeing the car up on the ramp showed the underside of the car completely covered in oil, which ment leaving the car with Tom @ TGM to find out what the issue was and then set about resolving it.

rays

Tom initially thought that the issue may have been the diff bearings and seals, replacing these soon showed there was still a bit of play in the o/s driveshaft. Fortunately, one of the TGM staff had a spare gearbox to fit a CRX to hand and swapped over the diff, the casing and also the 5th gear syncro as it was better than what Chris currently had. After 4 Weeks of the CRX being treated at TGM Chris finally got the CRX back in his possession.

rear

A productive couple of weeks saw Chris giving the car some small tidy ups which included fitting a new head unit with Bluetooth for obvious safety reasons. Installing new door solenoids to have remote central locking & refurbing the ageing wiper blades, Chris decided to take the car out for a fun run, only to find yet another issue this time with his brakes failing on him, thankfully without any incident which caused him or the car any harm. A trip to a local garage saw the problem identified as the break fluid turning bad, so a refreshed break fluid was put in, also under inspection the rear calliper had ceased wrapping the discs and ruining the pads from where it had been binding and after a set of new disks and pads Chris was once again set on his way with a rectified Crx.

interior

interior

Upgrades to the suspension was next on Chris’s list of things to do, opting for the increasingly popular MeisterR Zeta S coilovers and a set of cyberspeed lower control arms. Chris took these along to TGM on his next visit which was to get his cambelt, tensioner and waterpump done, but once again Chris’s visit to TGM was not without its newly arising issues. Tom discovered this time that the crankshaft pulley had a chunk missing out of it and would need replacing before changing the cambelt to avoid further garage time & labour charges. This is one of the unique factors that surrounds TGM, they are a very honest garage really there to make the customer happy in the most cost effective way, this is why so many people (Myself included) make the journey no matter how far as you know your car really is in the best hands.

interior

interior

Whilst the car was still there and now with the complications having to be sorted in the future, the designated time was set to change over the suspension to the coilover kit and the LCA’s, overcoming some more issues that Tom found with bushes that needed replacing and Chris’s CRX was finally taking some shape in the direction Chris was hoping for.

rear

Chris set about ordering a new set of wheels for the CRX, as the car is iconic within the car universe, he needed a set of wheels which would equal this and only improve on the CRX looks as well as making sure the fitment and weights make no difference other than improvements to the CRX’s drive. The Rays Volk TE37 was Chris choice & at 4.3kg a wheel without tyres, they are something to be appreciated. As a wheel for track use, these are one of the best. Not only being forged for incredible durability, the weight means the car can shed the pounds effortlessly and safely simply by these very well designed wheels straight from Japan.

bayup

rear

The next addition to the car was in the form of a Scorpion exhaust, which Chris explained to me as “a chav brand but it sounds amazing in vtec! Cannot help but smile to the deeper and more refined tone!” he had the exhaust once again fitted by Tom at TGM along with a new radiator as his previous one exploded on him a few weeks prior.

exhaust

Yet again Chris found himself back at TGM this time with a MeisterR big brake set up. Tom ran into some problems whilst fitting as the kit was initially designed to fit a civic. So Jerrick from MeisterR hand delivered a set of civic callipers so they could rob the parts required to get them to fit to Chris CRX. Along with the front brakes being replaced and a for a second time the rear brake calliper ceasing up, Chris opted to buy a second hand MG kit for his car to resolve this problem hopefully once and for all.

crx front

Chris decided that he only wanted to do one cosmetic change to the CRX and that was in the form of a J’s racing replica lip. The Genuine items are very hard to come by now and if you can get hold of one either the time frame will be a horrendously long wait, or the item itself will be very expensive.

rays

After a run day at Santa Pod and a few attempts up the quarter mile, Chris had decided to go and attempting to free up some more power from the B16 and bought a 5zigen 4-2-1 Manifold, along with the manifold, he purchased and fitted a set of Advan AD08s to the TE37s along with also buying the Eibach camber kit with front adjustable ball joints. Once again a visit to TGM was on the cards to have all of the above fitted and thankfully this time with no drama’s, Ken at TGM did the fast road set up on the Crx. I say without dramas until they set about fitting the Manifold, one of the studs in the head was already sheared off causing a slight blow, unfortunately when removing the previous manifold a few of the other bolts that were needed also broke just due to wear & tear. Tom worked his magic, drilling out the old bolts from the head and set about fitting the new Manifold, which proved more of a task than first imagined due to Chris’s new giant radiator, along with a mismatching of air con wires all over the engine bay meant that Tom was going to have to get creative just to get the manifold to fit as it was looking likely this was not to be the case. Removing the air con system was what had to happen to get the new manifold to fit, this all ended up taking the whole day but the new tone that chris describes as “Savage” when the CRX is in vtec was worth all the pain and suffering that Tom had to go through.

engine

Chris decided that he wanted to freshen up the body work of the Crx and set about himself dismantling the car and preparing it for paint. He wanted to source a good condition second hand bumper for the rex along with the door and wing he had found, but this proved to difficult and Chris ordered up a brand new one from Hendy Performance. To save some money Chris had taken apart the car and was willing to spend a lot of time and bravery putting it back together with a fantastic result, the car looks like this could have rolled out of the factory as it is all bar needing side decals on the freshly resprayed side.

front

With performance still in his mind and the car now having 98 Spec ITR cams and Skunk2 Adjustable cam gears, he is really looking forward to returning to Santa Pod to try beating his previous time of 14.9 seconds.

side on wall

Chris has really done this CRX justice over the last 2 years, he has given the little car a new lease of life. The Crx has a charm about it, it’s the underdog, which really can hold up against the bigger power carson and off the track. Being able to see a CRX SiR in such a condition with an owner that has so much passion and love for it, is a great marvel. I’m glad that Chris has zero plans to sell the Crx. Mainly due to never getting money back which he has spent on it. But this just means this little car will live on many many more years with an owner that is as set on keeping it as pristine as a daily driven car can be.

Scene Media X Players X Meguiar’s BBQ 2012

July 16, 2012

Last year; Scene Media, Players & Meguiar’s teamed up to create one of the best car meets of 2011. The idea behind it is simple, get a few cars from each scene’s together, chuck them all in a car park & give the owners a free lunch.

This year whilst in America, I got invited to the event once again but this time by one of the founding members of Players – Carl Taylor. He’d asked me to sort out a select group of Honda’s for the event. The event is invite only, not to be elitist, or to try make people feel like they are not welcome, but simply to control the numbers. The Meguiars site is not big enough to have every single car from every single scene come down so they just ask people to be selective in who comes. I sent out a few invites, some people could come & some people couldn’t, but we still managed to get a few of the best Honda’s down this way to the meet.

I’d also dropped Lance a call at smoke hoes explaining I had 2 Extra passes if he fancied coming down & bring Simon Bucknell & their filming equipment. Expect an awesome video from them & the one and only Stephen Brooks who was also filming at this event.

Hosted at Meguiar’s headquarters. The company produces some of the best car care equipment which is also affordable & not made out of extincted birds eggs; are good enough to open their doors to us as car enthusiasts and allow this meet to take place yearly. The company amaze me, they don’t ask you to buy anything, they don’t force product down your throat they simply just open the doors and allow people to come enjoy the day. Both years now I have had Zak accompany me on the journey, last year Nathan came but he was at a mask party the previous night & was crying that he’d be hungover, but my other close friend Harv was free from the grips of his job for a Sunday so he came a long too.

megs bag

Once we’d arrived & parked the Toyota in a hedge, we wandered around to the main building. I was greeted by Scene-Media co-founder Mark Riccioni, we had a brief catch up before one of my favourite cars in the whole of the country caught my eye.

I fell in love with this E30 M3 at a players show a few years ago, which I named it my car of the show. I then saw it again at Edition 38 last year in which, it was my favourite car of the show. Once again, seeing it at the BBQ, it was already my favourite. The owner has just rebuilt it to an exceptional standard, also fitting new center locking BBS’s to the car giving it a fresher new look. If the owner could email me, we did speak briefly at the show but I didn’t say everything i needed to so if you could email me at adam@6two1.com please if you ever see this!!

The massive smile on the owners face is an re-occuring similarity in most images I have with people in them. The atmosphere at the event is fantastic, everyone is up for a converstation no matter what stigma they may already have attached through out the scenes.

Also through my upbringing I’ve always attended Classic car shows with my Dad building a huge love for classics. This 1932 Ford was amazing. Truly loved having a look around it in detail, would love to get more cars like this on 6TWO1.

Sam wanted his S2000 to be cleaned, but was to lazy to do it himself, so he grabbed Hulk to do it for him…being very picky about what parts he wanted cleaned..

The owner of the Evo on CCW’s picking up his award brought the day to a close.

Once again, the guys absoultely smashed the event. The whole day was fantastic. The turnout was brilliant & the atmopshere was just so welcoming & friendly. I once again had an amazing day, I did actually take pictures of everyone’s cars but I messed the settings up on my camera so some are just un-usable. So dont think I missed your car out on purpose as I have got pictures, just crap ones not worth showing.

The variety of cars on show was mind blowing. How often can you get a B20 Civic, a 1932 Ford Hotrod and a Fiat Punto all on show in such a close environment? I really hope this happens again in 2013 & I get another invite a long as it has both years, been my favourite event I have attended.

Announcement!

July 12, 2012
tags: ,

picture

Right, I’ve got a little announcement, I have been dealing with internet sales & webstores for over 2 years now, I have been doing this within something that is safe to say I have one of the best coaches around for which is office furniture. My Dad is very established in the office furniture industry and I have learnt a lot from him on how to run a business, and how to keep a functioning web shop stable. My Current ones, for anyone just to see that im not chatting out of my arse are

www.flatpackoffice.co.uk

&

www.flatpackoffice.com

As of now, these are running fantastically & I have a great team along side me making sure that these progress whilst I am now focusing more on 6TWO1 and bringing my passion into a business and to be able to make this site the best I possibly can.

I have been in contact with a few companies, that you will see featured on the blog or may have already delt with, I want to be able to sell product’s I believe in. I have selected the companies that I have initially become authorised dealer for through knowing that their products are some of the best, if not THE best on the market. Once the shop is built, I have A LOT of work to do to get all pricing and products on, but in time the shop will get built very much like the flatpackoffice ones you see before.

The companies, incase you missed the MASSIVE image at the top of the post. Are Spoon Sports, Rywire & Rotiform wheels. I will be also adding more and more companies as I go to the shop, but just the amount of products that these have will keep me busy for a while.

6TWO1 will still be the blog it has been since day one. Just because I’m now selling products does not mean I will start changing how I write or if a part that is on a car is not available through myself, I will not talk any differently about it than I would have before. 6TWO1 will be a blog with substance with a web store attached.

I hope to continue to expand 6TWO1 as it goes really as a one stop shop for all enthusiasts & modifiers, where they can get their fix of pictures, videos & write ups as well as then heading into the store for a quick shop, eventually, I will also be bringing clothing from my friends brands in too.

www.facebook.com/ownthenightclothing

Own the night clothing will be one of the first, as well I will be attemping to offer music too from acts that I also believe you may enjoy, how this will come across is yet to be discussed but it is something I have in the pipeline & Whilst your at it you should check out :

www.facebook.com/robbieseaofficial

&

DJ 4’TEN

I understand this is going to take me a lot of hard work, but as long as you are all here to continue the fantastic support all of you have shown me from day 1 im sure this can be a success for everyone.

Make sure you get down to 6TWO1 at Ace Cafe on the 23rd of september. (click image for more info)

aceif you would like to have a trade stand at this event please contact adam@6two1.com

2012 South Mimms Meet 2

July 11, 2012

Photography by Oli Akintunde – Remedi PhotoMedia for 6TWO1

Whilst I was away living the American dream in the California Sun at the biggest Honda meet I’ve ever seen, back home there was our very own little version happening. Thankfully, Remedi did a photoset for me to post up on here for you guys so I can still bring you the coverage from events that are happening on our own doorstep, let alone the ones overseas.

This is a first for 6TWO1 in recent times, its been a very long time since I featured someone elses photography on my site. But I really feel it necessary to expand for you guys to be able to still see what happens in the UK Honda Scene even when I’m not around to get the coverage first hand & by using photographers that I know on a personal level I hope to be able to do this successfully.

From what I am aware, the weather wasnt exactly on its best behavior & the turn out wasn’t as high as the first Mimm’s but that is to be expected when the sun isn’t out unfortunately.  I’m going to roll through Oli’s picture’s and explain the best I can,  some images are pretty self explanitory though. So here we go, South Mimms Honda meet 2012 Part 2

Jos’s Honda Civic Ek4- NL

July 9, 2012

I’m taking you back to Holland for this post, Jos Boesten got in contact with with me through facebook a while back saying he wanted to hook up whilst I was next over for a photoshoot, he came and picked me up early on a wet, cold & windy Saturday morning. Not being from Zandvoort either neither of us had any idea where his shoot could take place.

Thankfully, Zandvoort is beautiful and I can only imagine very expensive place to live. With its red brick paved estates and its very well cared for greenland. It wasn’t too hard to find a nice place to park up and get some pictures.

front

Jos initially started modifying classis American cars, his previous Buick Riviera boat tail was what he was initially playing around with, but after deciding it was the worst car he had ever owned, breaking down more than he was getting to drive it he knew it had to make way for something much more reliable.

rear angled

Having always having a soft spot for Honda’s he picked up an EJ6 coupe, which after 2 years he passed on to his Girlfriend to use after finding it too slow to carry on with. Replacing that with the EK4 you see in the pictures.

rear

That was now 4 years ago, the EK4 has managed to not only keep his attention, but also bring him closer to other enthusiasts whilst maintaining the car to standards he is happy with.

front sided

The Civic got treated to a respray in BMW bronze, even though he was a fan of the original Granada Black that was on the civic, but after a small browse of google Jos knew he’d found the colour that was going to replace it.

rear sided

Jos can be found on the club stands of Retail Crew, Civic Club Holland and HCN at shows, depending on who is showing at each one.

side on

The wheels you see on the car are not the Rota GT3’s you initially thought. These are in fact the wheels that Rota copied for the design, Gab Sport 15 x 7 on the front & 15 x 6.5 on the rear wrapped in Toyo Proxes T1R’s.

6TWO1 Visits Rywire

July 3, 2012

ek front

When I knew I would be going over to LA for a week to cover Eibach, I wanted to make the most of my time by also visiting Rywire; a company that has been officially trading for the last 7 years and within that, has established itself well and truly within the hearts of the American Honda scene.

Da

“I started by just doing wiring for my friends swaps, and I was never afraid of the wiring. The 2 injector dpfi to mpfi, and the obd1 swap in the old Crx DX was the reason I really got into wiring these cars!”

ek

Ryan officially started trading under the name Rywire in 2005, specialising in anything motorsport electronic related, off road trucks to Honda’s. Ryan can do it all. From a chrome chipped ecu to a full blown MoTeC M800 ecu, He can build a loom for anything.

bay da

DPK David also works with Ryan at Rywire. His Civic coupe has been around the world via Magazine features & online blog features too and is currently being used as a daily car until he can find the right new daily….

Whilst I was visiting, Ryan Der’s EK was in the shop. This car has gone viral, with some people saying it is the “Best EK Ever”. Cannot fault how awesome it is in real life. Real hard race stance, was awesome to have some time to look over it in real life & not just on the internet..

I had a really cool time with Ryan & David at Rywire and cannot thank them enough for the hospitality they gave me whilst I was over in LA. They really do know what they are talking about when it comes to wiring and venturing into other parts of car building. Im just waiting on price files from Ryan and I will be offering his products via my site trying to bring some business to the UK as that show impressed I was by it whilst I was over and how they maintain such a high quality product whilst also keeping a low employee count yet maintaining such a big impact in the Honda world.

Arnolds Time Attack B18 EK Honda Civic hatch

June 25, 2012

side

Taking a little break from the LA coverage as I’m awaiting a few email’s about some bits before I can do the write ups and finish up before I can show you that stuff.

bonnet

But, I still have a few things to show you from Holland, this being one of them & A couple of London things too. So, this entry is of my dutch friend Arnold’s Time Attack EK. I have gotten most of the information from another of the dutch Honda guys called Elio, he was good enough to do me a speclist & a bit of background of the car, so I’ve tried to do a little background story of the car & how it has came to be…..

Civic

Arnold’s EK3 arrived with him as a 1.5 completely standard silver EK3 Civic, which he purchased from a dealer in 2006. Already having some simply parts for the car he whilst he was searching for the right one.

civic left side

For 3 year’s, the car was almost purely a show car. Attending shows with the ILOVEMYEK Crew, meets & just using as a daily cruiser. At the start of 2011, Arnold decided to turn his love for racing into a hobby of his own & started to change the direction of his car.

side

The car went from 1.5non Vtec to having a full B18c from a JDM ITR engine conversion, along with J’s racing 60rs catback exhaust with a custom B pipe to keep the noise regulations in line with track & competition rules.

engine

The Civic was stripped of everything, even its windows before being sent to Biesheuvel Motorsports who a specialised in FIA approved custom rollcage’s. Arnold wanted his cage to have the X Cross in the rear.

x

interior

Once the car was back in his possession, Lexan lightweight windows were purchased & fitted to the car. The pictures shown have his race day wheels on with TOYO R888’s. Arnold also has a set of 16 inch Compomotive wheels which I dont have pictured from this year..

rear

Whilst I was over, Arnold managed to win his class in the Toyo Time Attack. We got the pictures the day before the event, at a very wet & windy Zandvoort track… This wont be the last time I post about Arnold’s EK & I’m sorry that this is a fairly vague write up but below is the full spec list of the car…
